Hi there, I’m Erin

For over thirty years, I’ve been training dogs and horses with one core belief at the center of everything I do:
the relationship comes first.

Training isn’t just about behaviors; it’s about trust, emotional connection, communication, and honoring each animal as an individual partner. The deepest progress happens when science, structure, and compassion work together.

And for many of us, our dogs aren’t just pets.
They’re our anchors. Our healers. Our family.

My Journey With Animals and With Healing

I’ve been “mad for animals” for as long as I can remember. Even though I didn’t grow up in a family that shared my passion, I saved my own money as a child to ride horses and walked neighborhood dogs after school just to be near them. That pull toward animals has guided my entire life.

I studied Primate Paleontology with a minor in Science, fascinated by behavior, evolution, and the human–animal connection. But it wasn’t until I began training my first dog, Alexandra — a Great Dane — that everything truly clicked.

At first, I thought she was already “trained.” She walked nicely, listened well, and fit easily into my life. But when we joined an obedience class, I discovered something far deeper:
the powerful bond that forms when humans and dogs learn together.

That experience changed my path forever.

The Dogs Who Taught Me Resilience, Regulation, and Partnership

Over the years, I’ve shared my life with a wide family of animals: Great Danes, Newfoundlands, a Golden Retriever, a Samoyed, Chihuahuas, horses, cats, rescues, ferals, and purpose-bred dogs alike. Each one came with unique needs, challenges, and gifts.

But beyond training skills and titles, they taught me something even more important:

• how animals support us through grief
• how dogs help regulate our nervous systems
• how companionship carries us through illness and recovery
• how the human-dog bond can quite literally change lives

My own journey with dyslexia, health challenges, loss, and healing has been deeply intertwined with the dogs beside me. There were times when my dogs weren’t just companions, they were my emotional anchors, my motivation, and my calm in the storm.

They didn’t just learn from me.
They helped save me.

Experience Grounded in Science and Compassion

I’ve trained across many disciplines: obedience, agility, scent work, therapy work, trick dog, drafting, farm dog, water rescue, and more; and spent over a decade teaching and supporting animals and people through:

• Western Pennsylvania Humane Society
• Animal Rescue League
• Spencer and Friends Rescue (on-call behaviorist)

No matter the setting or background, my approach has always been the same:
listen first, honor emotion, apply science thoughtfully, and build trust that lasts.

Why Human Dog Harmony Exists

Human Dog Harmony was created for people who know their relationship with their dog is something special.

For the ones who feel their dog helped them survive something hard.
For the ones who want training that respects emotion, not ignores it.
For the ones who value both evidence-based methods and heartfelt connection.

Here, you’ll find:

✔ science-based training and behavior guidance
✔ stories that honor the emotional bond
✔ tools that bring structure and compassion together
✔ a community that understands how life-changing dogs can be

Because great training doesn’t weaken the bond.
It strengthens it.

And when we honor both the science and the heart of the human-dog relationship — that’s where true harmony begins.
